Déjà Vu...

This past weekend, I got the opportunity to take pictures for a family I work with. They hadn't had family photos done since their first son was about a year old and he's now 10.
Crazy, right?!
Their family has grown by one more sweet boy in that time who just turned 2 and so, they decided it was time to update the family gallery, but it was important to them that it be in a special place.
So, we went to the place they had their first family portraits taken and it was in a spot you'd never expect.
A local trail that runs a few miles through the city that starts behind the parking lot of a CEFCO gas station.
Now, I had never been to this trail so you can imagine my thoughts when the mom told me where to meet... "What have I gotten myself into?", "Behind a gas station? REALLY??", "I mean, I guesssss I can go with an industrial feel for this session..."
However, when I arrived, I found this little secret garden type atmosphere and was more than pleasantly surprised.
The mom and her oldest son arrived before her husband and youngest and, the oldest being quite shy, I took that time to take some "practice shots" just to warm him up to me and this camera in his face - literally. I used a fixed lens so no zooming in from far away. I had to get up close and personal with these kids and this family, which has been one of my new goals.
I want to have to really interact with my people to help get them engaged in the photo taking process. I've done this in my last two sessions and I've found it's helped capture some beautifully candid and intimate moments which, in my opinion, make for the best photographs.
Anyway... All that to say it was an exciting experience finding a new place, interacting with a new family and getting to put into practice all these things I'm learning because photography is something I don't believe will ever be completely mastered. I'm truly just so happy to continually get these opportunities to do what I love.
As always, thank you for your continued support and God bless, y'all.
